Callisto Entomology
Based in County Durham, I use ethically sourced specimens and locally grown flowers to enhance nature's beauty.
Each frame is entirely unique and hand-crafted. I am focused on sustainability and takes great pride in locally sourced materials to encapsulate the vision of nature.
Step 01
Ethical & Sustainable Sourcing
I source the butterflies only from conservation farms using sustainable collecting methods, where they live their full natural life cycles, supporting global biodiversity.
The Creation Process
From ethical discovery to final frame, every piece is a labour of botanical and entomological love.
Step 02
Preservation and Pinning
Each specimen undergoes a meticulous rehydration and pinning process to restore its natural form and vibrant beauty for years to come.
Step 03
Floral Arrangement
I pair my entomology with locally and sustainably grown Durham flowers, naturally dried to create a unique botanical landscape within the frame.
Step 04
Artwork Creation
Each piece is entirely one of a kind. Once the design has been carefully composed, every flower is individually placed by hand, often using fine tweezers, to achieve perfect balance and detail. The creation of a single piece can take many hours, with every element thoughtfully arranged before being finished with a premium protective acrylic coating and framed.
